Are you creative, or do you know someone who is and wants to help you? Have them design a little piece of jewelry for you (a pendant, a bracelet or something circular would be appropriate). A jeweler will be happy to make your design for you, taking into consideration your wife's tastes. There are some stones typically associated with 1st anniversary: ask your jeweler, and see if any of them would suit your wife's taste. If you design the piece, it will be a very special gift to her. The first wedding anniversary is paper so rather than spend money on a gift why not purchase a pretty paper photo album or scrapbook and fill it with photos from your honeymoon and first year of marriage. And perhaps take her out to dinner!
It depends on many factors one of them is your budget. If you like to buy her something that is commercially available you have to set aside an amount. It could also depend on how much you value the first year of your marraige. Try listing the memorable moments of your first year with her, envision what particular things you can give to enhance such moments, listen to your heart and feel what is really important to give to somebody as special as you wife.
